Every now and then we like to profile how God is at work among people who call Wellspring home. One such story comes from 10am members Al and Mary Dickins who began a journey this year to see how they could encourage more Christians to get involved in supporting vulnerable children here in Tasmania.
Mary and Al have been involved in foster care for a couple of years personally, but their desire to engage and equip others has taken them on a sometimes unexpected journey. Firstly, earlier this year they went to Thailand to attend the World Without Orphans Forum (picture above). Here they connected with other Christians doing similar work in their own communities.
Since then they have shared with other Christians in Tasmania who are also involved in fostering. They have spoken at Hope Christian Centre, had an amazing meeting with the Minister for Human Services, Jacqui Petrusma, talked to the Foster and Kinship Carers Association of Tasmania, had a stall at Church Together and the Tasmanian Women’s Bible Conference, shared at the Mid-Winter Women’s Retreat, run a discipleship group preparing Christians spiritually who are considering fostering or supporting foster carers, and are currently forming an advisory group and plan for 2017.
It’s certainly an inspiring story of what ordinary people can do as they go deeper and trust God for their next step.
Perhaps God is leading you to join them in this mission? If you would like to be part of this movement or help out please talk to them at church or contact the office and we’ll pass on your details.
