Cambodia Update

Pictured here is Ponlue. A student in Cambodia who attracted national attention in 2019 when he graduated from high school with the highest score in the country and earned a personal invitation to meet the prime minister. He is now studying Mechanical Engineering and teaching and mentoring in the newly built Andong Primary School in his spare time.

Wellspring members help to support the wages of teachers at Andong’s Primary School. Two of the village primary schools have been able to re-open recently which is an amazing blessing for the many thousands of families they support. In addition to being places of free education and meals for 1200 students from struggling families, the schools are also used for health clinics, Government service delivery, local celebrations, English lessons, church, agricultural training and much much more.

Sadly, Covid-19 continues to impact the schools. Various Australian and international partners have reduced or completely withdrawn funding support for the primary schools which has taken its toll on Abraham and his wife Sophin. Whilst funding for the schools has taken a significant downturn, the demands on the teachers and resources has never been higher. Because of Covid the Ministry for Education in Cambodia has put a limit on class sizes which for some grades has meant only half of the normal number of students can attend at any one time. This is requiring more teachers to deliver the same curriculum either in outside classrooms on the school grounds or with home visits to villages that are quite spread out.

Please pray for Abraham & Sophin’s health and finances as they pour everything they have into supporting these schools. Please pray the Lord would provide miraculously for the needs of these schools.
